Bruce Perens씨가 주도하고 있는 UserLinux의 향후 계획이 발표되었습니다. 현재 샌프란시스코에서 열리고 있는 리눅스월드 엑스포에서 쏟아져 나오는 수많은 보도자료들 중 하나일수도 있지만, 9월 15일로 예정되어 있는 데미안 Sarge 릴리즈 일정과 함께 상당히 관심을 가지게 되는 뉴스네요.

0.54 버전에 발견된 Security Hole 을 수정한 버전입니다.
8월 3일날 릴리즈가 올라왔군요..

HP, 리눅스 노트북 출시

HP가 주요 PC 메이커로는 최초로 리눅스가 기본 설치된 업무용 노트북을 출시한다고 합니다. 기종은 HP Compaq nx5000이고 SuSE 리눅스가 설치되었다고 하네요.

리눅스 데스크탑 확산의 증거가 하나 더 추가되는군요.

Sun mulls buying Novell

Sun Microsystems is toying with the idea of buying Linux seller Novell, saying that springing for the $2.64 billion company would hurt rival IBM.

"With our balance sheet, we're considering all our options," Sun Chief Operating Officer Jonathan Schwartz said in an interview Sunday regarding the possibility of acquiring Novell. "What would owning the operating system on which IBM is dependent be worth? History would suggest we look to Microsoft for comparisons."

gcc가 g95 (포트란)을 지원한다고 하네요~

g77은 gcc 3.4.x까지, gcc3.5이후부터는 g95(gfortran)을 지원한다고 하네요+_+..
빨리 써보고 싶네요~
(요즘에는 수치해석 툴에 놀래서 과연 제가 포트란을 쓸 이유가 있을까~하는 회의가 들기도 하지만^^; )

교육행정정보시스템(NEIS)의 기본 플랫폼으로 리눅스가 사실상 확정됐다.

2천대 이상의 서버로 운영될 NEIS는 이로써 민간 및 공공기관을 통털어 국내 최대의 리눅스 레퍼런스로 등극하게 된다. 이와함께 정부의 공개SW 육성정책 활성화의 획기적인 이정표가 될 전망이다.

박경재 교육인적자원부 국제교육정보화 국장은 2일 한국SW진흥원이 마련한 공개SW를 활용한 정보공유서비스 구축 전략 세미나에 참석, "성능 검사 결과 리눅스를 NEIS에 탑재하는데 무리가 없다는 잠정적인 결론을 내렸다"며 "학생정보보호와 보안에 문제가 없다면 리눅스를 적용할 것"이라고 말했다.

OSNews에 Novell이 화요일에 SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 9의 판매를 시작할 거라는 zdnet의 글이 인용된 것이 있어 링크 겁니다.

커널 2.6이 올라가고, x86 chips, IBM Power 와 Intel Itanium이 지원되고, 그리고 Intel과 AMD의 64bit x86에도 동작이 된다고 하는군요. Ford Motor가 구매를 한다는 발표도 있을거라 하고요...

그런데 관심을 끄는 것은 Novell이 600만 달러 (66억쯤)를 모아 다른 회사를 사기 위해 쓴다고 했다는데... 어떤 회사가 될까요? 기업 시장에서 경쟁을 하려면 DB가 필요할텐데... MySQL이 아닐까요?
