SCO Group, the Unix copyright holder that's threatening Linux-using companies with legal action if they don't pay for a license to run the open-source operating system, said Monday that one company in the Fortune 500 list of the world's biggest corporations had been convinced by its arguments. SCO declined to say which company took out the license or to reveal licensing specifics.

IBM, SCO 맞고소

이번엔 IBM이 SCO를 맞고소했답니다.

Windows 95...in less than 5 MB? It's been done. Based on the work of Richard E. James and redruM69 (who recently boiled down Windows 95 to less than 10 MB, and 5.3MB, respectively), msbetas.net was able to juice it down to just 4.47 MB.

말도 많았던 한글도메인이 드디어 시행이 되는군요.

다음은 정보통신부의 보도 자료입니다.

앞으로 `정보통신부.kr`, `무궁화.kr`처럼 한글과 국가도메인 `kr`을 결합한 한글도메인이 선보인다.
정보통신부와 한국인터넷정보센터(KRNIC)는 홈페이지 접속이나 이메일 등에서 사용하는 인터넷주소에 한글을 사용하는 한글도메인 시행계획을 확정하고 오는 19일부터 등록서비스를 시작한다.

한글도메인은 인터넷 주소에 각 나라의 다양한 문자를 이용하도록 하는 인터넷 국제표준 방식이 확정됨에 따라 이를 대한민국 국가코드인 `kr`에 적용한 것으로, 복잡하고 입력하기 어려운 `영문.kr` 서비스를 개선하고 자국어 도메인을 육성하기 위해 도입됐다.

From the release "The Darwin team at Apple is pleased to announce that version 2.0 of the Apple Public Source License has been certified as a 'Free Software License.' APSL 2.0 includes numerous changes and simplifications to make it even easier to use Apple Open Source software as part of your programs. To indicate acceptance of APSL 2.0, you can now use your new or existing "Apple ID", rather than having a separate Darwin account."" proclus adds "This is great news for Darwin-based free software projects like The GNU-Darwin Distribution and Fink. GNU-Darwin has had an ongoing discussion about this development, and annouced and end to our 'Free Darwin Campaign,' so long as Apple avoids DMCA-based legal action."

Linux: Benchmarking Filesystems In 2.6.0-test2

Grant Miner posted some interesting benchmark results to the lkml, comparing five journaling filesystems available with the current 2.6.0-test2 development kernel. The tests were conducted with a very simple shell script, mainly timing how long it takes to copy, tar, and remove directories, performing several syncs in between. He summarizes:

- ext3's syncs tended to take the longest [at] 10 seconds, except
- JFS took a whopping 38.18s on its final sync
- xfs used more CPU than ext3 but was slower than ext3
- reiser4 had highest throughput and most CPU usage
- jfs had lowest throughput and least CPU usage

SCO측에서 또다른 멋진 건수를 터뜨렸군요. 리눅스 커널 2.4를 지재권 문제없이 사용하려면 699불을 자기네들에게 지불해야 하고, 10월 15일 이후부터는 1399불로 가격이 오른답니다. 아래는 /.의 기사내용입니다. SCO는 곧 부자가 되겠네요. :D
