Nokia, 자사 제품의 웹브라우저 오픈소스화

Nokia가 자사 제품에 들어가는 웹브라우저 소스코드를 BSD 라이센스로 공개했습니다. GPL이 아니므로 누구나 사용할 수 있고 수정된 소스를 공개할 필요가 없습니다.

보도자료 전문은 http://www.prnewswire.com/cgi-bin/stories.pl?ACCT=104&STORY=/www/story/05-24-2006/0004367777&EDATE= 에 있습니다. 소스코드는 http://opensource.nokia.com/projects/S60browser 에 있는 듯 합니다. (자세히 보지 않았네요.)

아무튼 개인적으로는 매우 놀라운 소식입니다. 기업의 속성상 자사의 이익에 부합되지 않는 일은 하지 않는 것이 정상인데 저렇게 하는 것이 Nokia에 어떠한 '실질적인' 이득이 될지 잘 이해가 되지 않아서입니다.

웹표준이 임베딩 기계에 들어가는 브라우저에서의 수행하는 역활에 대해서 설명해 놨던데..
그거의 역효과라서 그런거 아닐지 모르겠습니다. 노림수는 아웃소싱과 최적화된 기기의 등장이 아닐런지..

후발 업체에서 근무하는 사람으로 노키아는 항상 레퍼런스 모델이었는데요.
뭐든 노키아에서 안되는 것이면, 다른 폰에서 안되도 용서가 되는게 이 동네 관습이었습니다.
그것보다 브라우저를 직접 개발해왔다는게 놀랍습니다.
보통은 Open**ve 많이 쓴다고 들었는데..
제 생각에도 좀더 코어에 집중하고, 생산성을 위해 브라우저나 일부 App를
소스 공개하고 서드파티를 키우려고 하는게 아닐까 싶습니다.

어찌보면 개발단가를 낮출수도 있고, 소속된 개발자는 더 쉽게 개발을 할 수 있을지도 모르겠군요.
직접 디버깅하기보다, 전화해서 내일까지 고치라고 하면 될테니까요. -_-;;
그나저나 원 개발자들이 다 노키아에 있을테니 공개된 소스를 들고 어플리케이션들을 개발하는
서드 파티 입장으로선 난감하겠네요..

Konqueror와 사파리에 쓰이는 KHTML(WebCore)를 사용한 것으로 보입니다. :)
완전히 재작성 하기가 쉽지는 않을테니까요.
