윈도우 3.11의 최후(?)

for those that were not aware, we recently announced that effective November 1st, 2008, OEM's will no longer be able to license Windows for Workgroups 3.11 in the embedded channel. Now we all know that it's been long gone in the standard (retail/OEM) channel, but one of the unique things in the embedded business is that we allow the classic OS products to be sold longer than the other channels. it's *finally the end of an era!

저는 이게 아직도 쓰이고 있었나 했는데 gizmodo.com 의 글을 읽어보니 그 동안 embedded 시스템에 계속 사용되고 있었나 보군요. :-)
기차역 디스플레이, 슈퍼마켓 같은데 있는 그 계산기(이걸 뭐라 하죠?), ATM 기계(!?) 같은데도 사용되었던 모양입니다.

대학 연구소 같은데서 아직 씁니다=_=

한 3년쯤 전에 아는 선배가 급하게 ISA인터페이스 있는 컴퓨터랑 윈도우 3.1을 구해달라고 해서

집에 굴러다니던 보드 조립해서 비싸게 팔아먹었던 경험이;;

실험 장비가 ISA포트에 소프트웨어가 윈 3.1에서만 돌아간다고 하더군요;;

새로 사려면 2천만원이라나;

그 연구실은 아직도 그때 제가 팔아먹는 거 쓰는 걸로 압니다. 그런 연구실이 종종 있어요.

지금 생각해 보면 저 당시에는 아마 바탕화면의 개념도 없었지 않았나 싶습니다. 윈도우즈 3.1인가를 쓰던 우리에게 선배가 보여준 매킨토시의 휴지통 기능이 무척이나 신기했었던 기억이 나는군요. xD

플로피를 휴지통에 넣으면 Eject 되던 기능이 더 인상적이었죠 ^^;

그간 살아있었다니 반갑고,
사라진다니 아쉽네요.

좋아하는 운영체제 중 하나인데...
여전히 다수의 윈도 API 가 윈 3.1 과 호환성을 가지고 있는데...
아쉽습니다. 개인적으론 계속 살아있으면 좋겠습니다. 도스와 함께.
