해상도 변경불가 문의

기존에 22인치 LCD 모니터를 1600x1200으로 잘 보고 있었습니다.
그런데 최근에 CMOS 클리어하고 디폴트 세팅한 다음에
페도라 8을 새로 설치했더니 글쎄
해상도가 1280x1024로 고정되 버렸습니다.
xorg.conf에 수동으로 1600x1200을 써 넣어도 변화가 없습니다.
혹시나 해서 ATI 그래픽 드라이버를 다운받아서 설치해도 그대롭니다.
우분투 라이브CD로 부팅을 해도 1280x1024로 나오네요.
(동료직원의 컴퓨터에서 부팅하면 1600x1200으로 나옵니다.)

모니터를 껐다가 켜면 가끔씩 화면이 떨리는 것을 보면
하드웨어적인 문제 같은데 왜 그럴까요?

설마 CMOS 설정 변경했다고 해상도가 낮게 나오지는 않겠죠?
(그래서 PCI-E 관련 설정과 VGA 설정은 전부 훓어 보았습니다.)

엔비디아 카드라면 nvidia-setting 이라는 유틸을 설치해주고 거기서 조정해 주는 게 가장 편하더군요.
거기서는 모니터의 해상도 뿐만 아니라 주사율까지 아주 쉽게 조정할 수 있었습니다.

ATI 카드에도 그와 같은 유틸이 있지 않을까요?

설치해 보았으나 변함이 없더구요.
똑같은 스펙의 동료 컴퓨터와 완전 다른걸 보면
하드웨어의 문제인 것 같습니다.
