데비안 etch ; apache + php 설치 오류

다른 패키지들을 설치하거나 삭제하는 데에는 별 문제가 없습니다. apache2패키지자체도 별 문제가 없습니다.
그런데 유독 저것들만 같은 오류로 안됩니다. php모듈이 설치가 안되니 웹서버로서의 기능을 대부분 상실했습니다.
원래 되던 것이었는데 etch로 upgrade하고 나서 몇주쯤 전에 새로 올라온 보안패치를 받으려고 업데이트를 실행했습니다.
실행중에 무슨 이유로 설치가 강제종료되었는데 그 이후인것 같습니다. 무엇이 문제 일까요? 비슷한 경험있으신분 없나요?

오류를 이리저리 살펴보다보니
ucf 명령에서 저 오류가 나고 있습니다.

ucf purge /etc/apache/conf.d/php4.conf
Can't call method "description" on an undefined value at /usr/share/perl5/Debconf/Question.pm line 93, line 1.

이 파일은 제가 손을 댄 적이 없는 파일입니다. ucf의 작동을 잘 모르지만 여기에 문제가 있는 듯 합니다.

이런...
ucf를 apt-get --reinstall install ucf
로 재설치 하고 나니 되는군요. 어딘가 파일이 손상되었었나 봅니다.ㅡ.ㅡ;;
