extern void func(); 초보질문입니다.

extern void func();
헤더파일에 보면 extern된 프로토타입이 간혹보이는데요.

func함수를 다른 모듈에서 호출해서 쓸때,
extern void func(); 형식대신에
void func(); 같이 extern을 빼고 써도 잘 작동하는데
굳이 extern을 붙여서 쓰는 이유가 있나요?

저도 궁금해져서 검색해보니까 오래된 컴파일러들과의 호환성을 위해서라고 하는 것 같네요.
그 이외에도 명확해 보이기 때문... 쿨럭;;;
아래에 인용문 읽어주셍(이 문서만 검색한건 아니지만)

음... static, volatile 같은 것들은 아직도 쓰이지만 auto같은 것들은 사용되지 않는 것이랑 비슷한 맥락일까요? (요즘도 될까-_-;;;)

이궁... 답이 안되는 소리 같군영^^;;;

The extern class is the default class for objects with file scope. Objects outside of any function (an external definition) receive the extern class storage unless explicitly assigned the static keyword in the declaration. The extern class specifies the same storage duration as static objects, but the object or function name is not hidden from the linker. Using the extern keyword in a declaration results in external linkage in most cases (see Section 2.8), and results in static duration of the object.

extren 선언은 현재 선언한 변수나 함수가 다른 파일에 선언되어 있으므로

찾아서 사용해라. 라는 뜻이 비슷합니다.

일반적으로 함수나 전역변수는 다른 파일에서도 access 가능합니다.

extern void funtion();
void funtion();

같을 수도 있고 다를 수도 있습니다. 이것은 사용하는 컴파일러에 따라서

다른 결과가 나타날 수 있습니다.
