longest-matching prefix에 관한 질문

저는 네트워크를 공부하고 있습니다.

"The IP routing uses the longest-matching prefix to determine the destination"라는 문장이 있는데..

여기서 longest-matching prefix라는 의미를 모르겠습니다.

어떤 라우터가 AAAC ,AABB 두개의 주소로 전송할수 있고,

이 라우터가 AAAB라는 주소로 가는 패킷을 받았다면,

AAAB와 앞에서부터 3자리나 같은 AAAC로 전송한다는 얘기 아닐까요?

p.s. 그냥 추측성 발언이라 사실과 다를수도 있습니다.

라우팅 Table에 다음과 같은 두가지 라우팅 정보가 있다면

10.1.1.0 / 255.255.255.0 => next hop 192.168.1.1
10.1.0.0 / 255.255.0.0 => next hop 192.168.1.2

10.1.1.1에 대한 Packet은 더 자세한 or 잘맞는 정보(?)인 10.1.1.0 / 255.255.255.0 에 근거하여 192.168.1.1로 보내진다는 이야기로 알고 있습니다.
