Solaris의 tar와 Linux의 tar에 차이점이 있습니까?

어떤 경우에는 서로 호환이 안되는 경우가 발생하는 것 같습니다만 이유가 어디에 있는 것인지 알고 싶습니다.

오래전에 들었던 지라, 지금은 다를 수도 있습니다.
기억력이 그다지 좋지 못한지라..-_-;;; 지적 부탁 드립니다.

원래 tar의 구조상, 전체 경로(path)를 담을 수 있는 길이가 99자로 한정되도록 설계되었다고 합니다.
그래서 이 경로의 길이가 100자 이상일때도 무난하게 처리하기 위한 확장법을 tar에 적용시키게 되었는데..

GNU tar에 있던 path 확장 방법과, SUN tar에 적용된 path 확장 방법이 달라서,
tar에 포함된 전체 경로의 길이가 99자를 넘어갈 경우 tar 파일의 비호환 문제가 발생한다고 알고 있습니다. :)
(아주 구버전의 SUN tar의 경우 path 확장이 안된다고 알고 있습니다.)

대표적으로 MySQL 의 배포 타볼패키지들은 GNU tar 을 요구하더군요. 하지만 어떠한 이유에서 호환이 되는지는 저두 궁금.

아마 이걸껍니다..
경로를 포함한 파일 전체 길이라고 말을 해야 하는데, 위에서는 대뜸 경로 길이라고 해버렸군요.. 쩝. :)

솔라리스 2.5.1 가이드에서 찾은 내용입니다. 구버전 tar 겠지요.

MySQL 레퍼런스 매뉴얼에서 긁었습니다.

아마 구버전에서 긴 파일명을 지원하지 않다보니, 개선된 이후에도 그냥 안전하게 GNU tar를 쓰라고 권장하는것이지 않을까 추측해봅니다.
