Redhat 9.0-smp부팅시 시스템이 멈춰 버립니다.

안녕하세요?
초보 리눅서입니다.
저는 AUAS CUX4-D(1G Intel Dual)에서 리눅스를 깔고 사용하고 있습니다.
얼마전까지는 와우리눅스7.0(까치)에서 smp버젼의 커널로 사용하였다가,
몇일전에 Redhat9.0으로 다시 깔았습니다.
그런데 문제는 non-smp버젼의 커널로 부팅을 할 때에는 문제가 없는데,
smp버젼의 커널로 부팅을 할 때에는 예외없이 시스템이 도중에서 멈춥니다.
그래서 이곳 게시판에서 저와 비슷한 경험을 갖고 있는 분이 있나 검색했더니,
그 분은 BIOS setting에서 MPS1.4를 enable->disable로 바꾸었더니,
smp버젼의 커널로 무사히 부팅이 되었다고 하였습니다.
그래서 저 역시 그 분의 tip을 따라 해 보았더니, 문제없이 부팅은 되었습니다.

제가 리눅스 초보라서 그런지 몰라도,
BIOS setting의 MPS를 disabled시키면,
smp기능이 아예 불가능해지는 것이 아닌가 궁금합니다.
만약, 그렇더라도 smp기능이 제대로 작동하는 것이라면 문제가 없으나,
smp기능이 마비되어 버리는 것이라면,
MPS를 disabled시키지 않고 smp버젼의 커널로 문제없이 부팅할 수 있는
또 다른 방법이 있는지 알고 싶습니다.

고수님들의 많은 조언 부탁드리겠습니다.
