바닐라 커널이 뭐지요?

bootsplash를 해보려고 하니,
바닐라 커널 2.4.20에 대한 패치가 있네요.

음.. 제가 검색한 결과 , "바닐라"는 아무 패치가 되어 있지 않는 커널
이라는데, 그러면 일반적인 공식 커널을 말하나요?

그리고, 유니콘도 병행해서 할 생각인데, 이것 역시 커널 패지가 있더군요.

이런식으로 각각의 커널 패치를 하면 커널 소스 내부에서 꼬여서 문제가
생길 수 있지 않나 걱정도 되네요.

젠투 portage트리만 봐도

gentoo-sources, xfs-sources 등등 여러가지 패치가 가해진 커널들이 있죠...

근데 왜 '바닐라'라고 부르나요? :?: ;;;;

바닐라는 아이스크림 세계(?)에서 가장 기본적인 맛이었지요. 지금도 그렇지만..
그래서 아무것도 추가하거나, 고치지 않은 것들을 vanilla라고 한답니다.

결국, 의미상 정식 커널을 의미하겠지요.

아래는 Wikipedia에서 vanilla로 검색한 내용의 일부입니다. :)
