[제발] 도와주세요. strlen()함수 사용시

다음과 같은 소스를 컴파일하였더니 계속 에러가 발생해요..
왜 그런거죠?...size_t변수를 %d형태로 출력이 불가능한건가요?

char work_area[WORK_SIZE];

printf("You input %d characters\n", strlen(work_area));

<컴파일결과>

그냥 경고가 뜨지 않을까 싶은데

printf("~~~~&d~~~~", (int) strlen(~~~) );

이런식으로 해보세요

어떤 컴파일러에서 커파일했는지 궁금하네요..

일반적으로 컴파일러가 이런 포멧스트링 출력의 인자 타입까지 검사해주지는 못합니다.

따라서 굳이 캐스팅하지 않아도 에러는 나지 않습니다.

에러가 아니라 그냥 Information인데요?
컴파일은 무사히 됐을거고 실행해도 정상적으로 동작할겁니다.
다만, 위와 같은 메세지가 출력되는 이유는 size_t형이 int형과 같지 않아 암시적인 형변환(casting)이 발생하기 때문입니다.
시스템에 따라 다르긴 하지만 일반적으로 size_t는...

typedef unsigned long size_t;

와 같이 형정의되어 있습니다.(그냥 unsigned인 경우도 있습니다.)
명시적으로 형변환을 해주시면 Information 메세지가 뜨지 않을겁니다.

gcc를 비롯한 요즘 컴파일러는 검사합니다.
