scanf와 같은 block 함수를 어떻게 만드나요?

scanf 함수는 키 입력이 있을 때까지는 함수의 실행이 멈추던데요. 실행이 멈추면서도 프로세스를 크게 잠식하지 않고 다른 프로그램과 사이좋게 병존합니다. while로 block를 하게 되면 프로세스 전부를 잠식해서 모든 프로세스를 독점하던데요. 어떻게 하면 scanf 처럼 while을 사용하지 않고도(제 생각에는 while 쓰지 않고 block을 구현하는 것으로 보입니다.) 프로그램의 실행을 키보드의 입력이 있을 때까지 정지시킬 수 있나요?

gets() 함수를 쓰시면 됩니다. 아마 scanf() 함수 내부도 비슷하게 되어 있지 않을까요? gets()를 쓰던지 비슷한 기능을 쓸 듯 합니다.
또는 getchar()을 써도 되고요. 엔터가 들어올 때까지 while() 루프를 도는게 문자열을 받아들이는 핵심이니까요.

scanf가 어떻게 구현되어 있는지를 물어보시는 것 같은데...

유저 코드 레벨에서는 안되고 궁극적으로는 OS 커널의 도움을 빌려야 합니다. 리눅스 기준으로 말하자면 read system call을 부르면서 "이 file descriptor에 (= stdin) 입력이 있을 때까지 기다렸다가 입력이 들어오면 날 깨워줘." 하는 거죠.

그러면 커널이 그 명령을 기억해 둔 채로 다른 일을 하다가 해당 file descriptor에 입력이 들어오면 그 프로세스를 깨우게 됩니다.

리눅스라면 scanf를 사용하는 간단한 프로그램을 만든 다음 "strace (실행파일명)" 해보시면 무슨 system call을 쓰는지 알 수 있습니다.
