데비안에서 파이어월(ipchains, iptables) 설정 방법은?

레드헷만 쓰다가 데비안을 쓰는데 파이어월 설정이 잘 되지 않는군요.

gns:~# ipchains -L
ipchains: Incompatible with this kernel
gns:~# iptables -L
modprobe: Can't locate module ip_tables
iptables v1.2.6a: can't initialize iptables table `filter': iptables who? (do you need to insmod?)
Perhaps iptables or your kernel needs to be upgraded.

커널 업그레이드를 해야하는 건가요? 커널 업그레이드를 해야 한다면 컴파일
말고 패키지로 설치하는 방법은 없는지 궁금합니다.

패키지 커널이라면 modconf 에서
kernel/net/ipv4/netfilter 쪽에서 ip_tables를 추가해 주면 되지 않을까요?

iptable패키지 설치시에 자동으로 모듈이 올라갔던것 같은데...
설치해본지가 좀 오래돼서 기억이 가물가물하군요.

그런데 2.2.20 커널에서 ipchains가 안되는게 더 이상하군요. ;;
