초봅니다. Xwindow가 안떠요. 폰트문제인것 같은데..

삼보6570 노트북 사용자 입니다.
그래픽카드는 SiS630 이구요.
리눅스는 레드햇7.1 을 설치했습니다.

레드햇 설치는 그럭저럭 무사히 넘어왔는데요 ^^

설치도중에 모니터랑 그래픽카드등 질문해오길래.
Xwindow까지 잘 설치되었구나.. 싶었죠.
그래서 곧바로 startx 실행했는데.. T_T

Fatal server error
Could not open default font 'fixed'

XIO fatal IO error .... 등등

위의 메세지가 뜨면서 실행이 안됩니다.

그리고 xset -q 라는 명령을 줬더니..
unable to open display "" 라고 뜨면서 역시 실행이 안되요.

폰트 문제 맞긴 맞나요?.. 무엇부터 건들어야 할지. 알려주세요. ㅠ_ㅜ

도움이 될까 싶어.. StartX 했을때 출력되는 메세지도 올려봅니다. please~

font문제가 맞는것 같습니다.

unix/7100 이부분은 xfs가 떠있어야 하는 부분인데...

$ ps -ef | grep xfs

해서 xfs가 실행중인지를 먼저 검사하십시요.
실행중이 아니라면

$ /etc/rc.d/init.d/xfs restart

하시면 될겁니다.
그리고

$ setup

을 하셔서 System Services를 선택하시고 xfs를 [*]로 표시한다음에
[OK] ([Tab]으로 이동...)를 선택하고 [Quit]를 선택하면 이후부터는
폰트 서버가 자동으로 실행될겁니다.

조성호님 덕분에.. 폰트 문제임을 확신할 수 있었고, 폰트에 관련된 여러가지
디렉토리와 파일들, 그리고 해결방법들을 알게 되었습니다. ^^

하지만 문제는 그것이 아니었더라구요. ^^

조성호님 말씀대로 xfs가 실행중인지 확인해 보라구 해서.
ps -ef | grep xfs 했더니 실행중이었습니다.
ntsysv에서도 xfs가 설치되어있는 걸로 나와있었습니다.

xfs문제는 아니겠다 싶어.. 폰트에 관련된 다른 방안들을 찾아보게 되었습니다

저와 같은 경우의 원인은..

1. /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts 의 폰트들이 압축이 풀리지 않은 경우

-- 레드햇 7.1을 제가 설치했는데.. TrueType등 몇개 빼고는 압축이 안풀려져
있었습니다.

2. xfs 데몬이 띄워져있지 않은 경우

-- 조성호님 말씀대로
-- /etc/rc.d/init.d/xfs restart 혹은 ..../xfs start 하면 되구요

3. xfs 가 문제가 있어서 /etc/X11/fs/config 에서 폰트디렉토리를 제대로 못
찾는 경우

-- /etc/X11/fs/config의 'catalog = ....' 이부분의 폰트디렉토리를
-- /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/XF86Config 의 'FontPath "..." ' 집어넣는 곳에
-- 카피하는 방법.
-- 이때, FontPath "unix/숫자" 로 된 라인은 주석처리 합니다.

4. 폰트 서버에 등록된 폰트 화일의 파티션이 깨진 경우

-- 아마 폰트를 다시 설치해야 되겠죠?

5. 노트북에 맞는 XFree86 서버가 아닌 경우.

-- 전 바로 이경우 였습니다. ㅜ_ㅠ
-- 노트북은 프레임버퍼를 사용할 수 있는 XFree86서버여야하나 봅니다.
-- 노트북인 경우, /etc/X11/X 가 /usr/X11R6/bin/XF86_SVGA 를 가리키게하면
-- 안됩니다.
-- /usr/X11R6/bin/XFree86 을 가리키게 하거나, .../XF86_FBDev를 가리키게
-- 하십시오.

조성호님께 감사하다는 말씀을 늦게 드리게되서 죄송합니다.
한번 더 물어보기가 미안해서 좀 삽질좀 하다보니.. 이렇게 늦었네요 ^^
