kernel 2.4.8에서 "make xconfig"실행시 문제점...

문의 드립니다.
현재 hancom linux(redhat계열) kernel 2.4.2를 사용하던중
커널 2.4.8을 사용하려고 커널 .tar.gz file일을 받아 /usr/src/linux에
풀고 make dep;make bzImage를 해서 커널 컴파일까지 실행했습니다.
제가 필요한 것은 linux kernel에 들어가 있는 IPV6관련 모듈들입니다.
그런데 make xconfig를 실행후 network option에서 확인 해보면
IPV6와 관련된 메뉴를 선택할수 없도록 비 활성 되어 있는데요.
이유가 뭐죠?
linux kernel 2.2.X 이후로는 IPV6가 지원 되는 것으로 알고 있는데요.
임의의 file에 기존의 .config파일 기본내용에 IPV6와 관련된 configuration을
add시키고 컴파일을 시켜 보아도 마찬가지로 "make xconfig"에서는
활성이 되질 않네요.
혹시 아시는분 있으시면 알려주시면 감사하겠습니다.
