zio usb 무선랜설정시..

우분투 8.04 를 사용합니다

질문부터 말씀드리면 zio라는 usb 무선랜(eth1으로 잡히더군요)을 설치하고,

ifconfig eth1 add 192.168.3.1 netmask 255.255.255.0
SIOCSIFNETMASK: Cannot assign requested address

이런 에러메세지가 나옵니다. netmask에서 에러가 생기는데 어떻게 하면 설정을 잡을 수 있을까요?

저렇게 설정을 잡으면...

iwconfig eth1 mode master

Error for wireless request "Set Mode" (8B06) :
SET failed on device eth1 ; Invalid argument.

ad-hoc이나 managed모드는 설정이 되는데,

master 모드로 실행하려고 하는데 이것도 안됩니다 뭐가 문제인지.. 부탁드립니다.
