하드디스크 사이즈가 달라도 미러링이 가능한가요?

현재 서버에 500G 와 250G 하드 두개가 있습니다.
os 를 비롯한 각종 유틸은 250G 하드에 설치되었구요..
500G 하드는 널널하게 놀고 있습니다.
그런데 혹시나 불상사를 대비하여 미러링을 시도하려고 하는데요,
두개의 하드디스크 용량이 같아야 한다는 글을 보았습니다.

여기서 질문..
1. 미러링은 두개의 하드디스크 사이즈가 동일해야 하나요?
2. 만약 그렇다면 다른 대안이 없을까요?
3. 미러링에 관해서 자세한 설명이나 매뉴얼 링크 부탁드립니다.

가능은 하지만 하드디스크 용량이 더 작은 쪽에 맞춰집니다. (여기 참고)

소프트웨어 레이드(운영 체제에서 지원해 주는 것)를 사용하면 이 경우 500GB 하드디스크에서 250GB는 250GB 하드디스크와 함께 미러링을 하고, 남은 250GB는 그것대로 쓸 수 있게 해 줄 겁니다. 그런데 리눅스의 LVM이 이 상황에서 레이드로 묶는 것을 지원해 줄 지는 잘 모르겠네요.
