sync에 대해서

sync함수를 사용하면 메모리의 내용을 하드디스크에 완전히 쓰는 것을 보장하는 것으로 알고있습니다.
그런데, 이 sync함수 호출할 수 있는 횟수가 제한되어있어서 sync를 빈번히 사용하는 두개 이상의 어플리케이션을 같은 하드 디스크에서 돌릴경우 성능이 저하된다고 하던데..맞는지요? 지나가는 말로 주워들은 지라 확실하지 않아서 고수님들께 여쭈어 봅니다.

그리고 아무리 찾아봐도 관련 내용이 없던데 참고할 만한 사이트가 있으면 알려주십시요.
