RHEL 4.0 에서 8GB RAM 인식관련 질문

RHEL ES 4.0 (update5) 를 설치하였습니다.
설치 하드웨어는 core2duo CPU 에 965G chipset 입니다.
처음 설치에 많이 애를 먹었는데 all-generic-ide 옵션으로 가까스로 설치했네요. 그런데 64bit RHEL 을 설치하였음에도 불구하고 8GB RAM (2GB x 4) 이 제대로 인식되질 않습니다.
바이오스 상에서는 RAM 이 8120MB 로 정상적으로 인식되지만,
부팅시 grub 부팅 커맨드에 mem=8120M 을 넣지 않으면 부팅불가,
부팅시 grub 부팅 커맨드에 mem=8120M 을 넣으면 아래와 같이 6GB 정도로 인식되는군요.

부팅 후에 dmesg | grep Memory 를 하면

라고 나오는데,
free 명령을 사용하면

이렇게 나오네요..

제가 사용하는 어플리케이션이 꼭 8GB 가 필요한데 답을 찾을 수가 없네요.
커널은 2.6.9-55 입니다. (ELsmp 로도 테스트 해봤지만 동일합니다.)
꼭 조언 부탁드립니다.
