ps 명령에서 pcpu 항목이 나타내는 의미가 도대체 무엇인가요?

ps 명령에서 pcpu 섹션이 나타내는 값이 맨 페이지에 보면 "ratio of cpu time" 이라고 되어 있습니다.
그리고 직접 ps 명령을 내리면 1.6% 와 같이 백분율 값으로 나타나게 됩니다.

근데 도대체 이 백분율이 나타내는 의미를 도통 모르겠습니다.

디스크 혹은 메모리 사이즈의 백분율이라면 쉽게 이해가 가겠지만... cpu time 에 대한 백분율이라니.. 잘 이해가 안 가네요.
쉽게 설명해 주실분 어디 안 계신가요?

가령 프로세스가 기동되어 100분동안 메모리상에서 존재했다 할지라도 실재로 CPU를 사용하며 움직인 시간 자체는 그 일부에 불과합니다.

즉 100분의 메모리 체류시간동안 CPU를 5분정도 사용했다고 하면 pcpu 값은 5%가 되는거지요.
