약력:
Rick Rashid joined Microsoft Corporation in 1991 and currently oversees Microsoft Research (MSR) worldwide operations. Before this, Rashid was professor of computer science at Carnegie Mellon Univer-sity. He has been involved in arti-ficial intelligence, operating systems, networking, multiprocessors and other areas. MSR currently has research facilities in the US, England, China and India, and employs 700 engineers.

Abstract
This year Microsoft Research celebrates its 15th anniversary. In this talk Rick Rashid will describe how Microsoft Research came into existence and the decisions, events and factors that Rick Rashid believe have lead to its success. Rick Rashid will talk about the role of basic research in Industry and how it relates to both academic research and product development and Rick Rashid will look forward to the future and the technologies that will shape the next 15 years.
