exim4 설정 문의

debian 3.1 sarge에 exim4를 설정하였습니다.
exim4 관련하여 별 설정을 한것은 없구요.(exim3과 많이 다르더군요)
기본 설정만 했습니다. exim서버에서 메일 송수신은 잘 되는데...
client에서 메일을 가져갈 수가 없습니다.
client설정은 인증필요와 받는 메일서버와 보내는 메일서버에 보안연결SSL을 모두 체크하면
에러는 안나지만 메일 수신이 안되고,
체크를 모두 없애면 메일 수신이 안될뿐더러 에러도 납니다.(아이디, 패스워드 입력창이 뜹니다. , 아이디나 암호가 잘못되었을때처럼)
아무리 웹을 찾아보아도 답이 없네요.
고수님들의 고견부탁드립니다.
