Qt/Embedded GPL로 된다.
트롤텍이 Qt/Embedded도 GPL로 라이센스를 하네요.
허... 무슨 생각인지... 참.. 되게... 깐깐한 회사였는데?
아무튼 반가운 일이 아닐 수 없습니다.. ^.^..

Trolltech to add GPL licensing to Qt/Embedded
(2000/10/30) - Toolkit for creating cross-platform
graphical user interfaces will be available for open source
software developers
Trolltech, creator of the Qt cross-platform graphical user
interface (GUI) toolkit, today announced that the current
version of Qt/Embedded will be licensed under both a
commercial license and an open source license; the GNU
General Public License (GPL). The open source version of
Qt/Embedded will enable developers of free software to use
Trolltech's embedded GUI application framework and
windowing system under the terms of the GPL. Commercial
customers will benefit from professional support and
services and will not be restricted by the GPL licensing
conditions.
Trolltech released Qt/Unix for the X Window System under
the GPL on September 6 of this year. "We have experienced
tremendous success with our GPL licensing of Qt for the
Unix desktop," said Eirik Eng, president of Trolltech. "By
opening the source code of Qt/Embedded, the rapidly growing
embedded developer community can use a state-of-the-art
development tool. This will also make Qt/Embedded a better
product because we anticipate that Qt/Embedded will undergo
a rapid evolutionary process as is typical of the open
source community."
"Qt/Embedded is the state of the art in GUI for embedded
Linux," said Minsuk Lee, V.P. Engineering at PalmPalm. "The
product is a cornerstone in our embedded Linux offering.
Qt/Embedded is the best choice for both time critical
commercial projects and projects under the GPL license."
Qt/Embedded is completely customizable, from a memory
consumption of 600K for simple devices up to the full set
of features available on modern desktop systems.
Qt/Embedded allows for increased features such as alpha
blended pixmaps (an image-management feature) and rotating
screens. Major Qt/Embedded projects include Ericsson's
Cordless Screen Phone and the first mobile phone to run
embedded Linux.
Open source developers can now combine the GPL versions of
Qt/Unix and Qt/Embedded to create applications in a desktop
environment and then recompile the program over to embedded
devices. Qt/Embedded decreases development time by
providing a complete windowing system and significant power
and memory savings.
"Trolltech has always been good at cross-platform
application frameworks," said Drew Jackman, director of
developer services, Lineo, Inc. "By allowing the user to
program applications on a desktop, then recompile it over
to embedded devices, Trolltech has given a whole new
meaning to open source cross-platform development."
"This is absolutely exciting news," said Y.J. SEO, CEO of
MIZI Research. "Qt/Embedded is key technology for embedded
GUI on Linux and is widely spreading within the industry.
The GPL version will make the product an obvious choice for
open source embedded Linux projects."
"This step certainly puts Qt in the lead for embedded
systems GUI development, and opens up exciting new
possibilities for KDE," said Daniel M. Duley (aka Mosfet),
a leading KDE developer. "Qt/Embedded is a solution more
powerful than any of the alternatives."
