Gaim 과 라이브러리.

안녕하세요~
윈도우에서 리눅스로 넘어가려는 초보 학생입니다. ^-^

Gaim 최신버전을 받아서 설치한 후
gaim 을 치니
libgcc_s.so.1 이 없다고 나오네요.
gcc 및 왠만한 라이브러리는 모두 up2date 를 통해 업데이트한 상태구요.
뭔가 심볼릭 링크를 걸어줘야 할 것 같아서 find 명령으로 libgcc* 를 찾아보니
libgcc.a 파일이 여러군데서 검색되더라구요.
아닌것 같지만 혹시나 해서 /lib 및 /usr/lib 에 심볼릭 링크걸어줬는데도 안되는군요.

제가 궁금한건...
라이브러리 파일 뒤의 so.1 , .a 가 의미하는건 무엇인지...
심볼릭 링크를 만든다면 어느 디렉토리에 만들어줘야 하는지...
이런 문제가 발생할 경우 libgcc_s.so.1 등과 같은 파일을 어떻게 찾아서 심볼릭 링크를...
혹은 어떻게 찾아서 설치해 줘야 하는지 궁금하네요.

저도 나름대로 정말 많은 시도와 검색 후 질문하는 거에요.
