php 웹 프로그램.. 에서 외부 서버 디렉토리 접근..??

외부 서버에 있는 디렉토리 접근 하려고 합니다.
별도의 data server를 두고 이용하려고 하는데(디렉토리에 접근해서) 화일을 불러 드릴려고 하는데.. 무슨 방법이 없을까요.?

dir 함수를 이용하면 될거 같은데 내부 서버는 되는데 외부 서버는 되지 않는군요..

어찌하면 될른지..
