epoll 을 사용해서 interface up down 확인도 가능할까요?

오랫만에 공부를 하다가 질문을 올립니다.
Web에서 아래와 같은 epoll 예제를 보고 공부중이었는데요.
이 예제프로그램을 컴파일해서 한 시스템에 수행하고, 다른 시스템에서는 telnet으로 접속해봤어요.
연결고 되고, 데이타도 전송되는데요
여기서 사용중인 interface를 ifconfig [ensxx] down 명령어를 써서 down 시키면,
EPOLLERR이 발생하지 않을까 생각했었는데요.
막상 epoll_wait()에서는 감지를 못하네요.
이게 정상인지, 아니면 제가 뭘 잘못이해하고 있는지를 모르겠어서, 질문드립니다.
이렇게해서는 interface up/down 확인이 안되는건지요?
아니면, 뭔가 수정을 해서 interface up/down확인이 가능하도록 만들 수도 있는건지 궁금합니다.
