32bit glibc와 64bit glibc를 동시에 설치하면 어떻게 되는지요?

현재 64bit 페도라 10을 사용하고 있습니다.
tightvnc-server-1.3.9-1.i386.rpm를 설치하려고 하니
32bit glibc가 필요하다고 하는데요

한노드에 64bit glibc와 같이 설치해도 괜찮은지요?

실제로 많은 배포판에서 32비트 바이너리로만 배포되는 프로그램을 위하여 32비트 호환용 라이브러리를 배포하고 있습니다. 그리고 tightvnc 64비트용 RPM도 있는 것 같네요.

그렇다면 32비트 호환용 라이브러리를 설치해도 문제없다는 말씀이신가요?

그렇긴 하죠. 데비안의 경우 ia32-libs라는 패키지가 있습니다. 아무리 이러한 패키지가 있다고 해도, 가능하다면 64비트 패키지를 설치하는 것을 추천합니다.

64비트는 이미 설치되어있고요
tightvnc를 설치하려고 하니 dependency 때문에 32비트 glibc가 딸려오는 것 같습니다.

fedora 의 경우에는 64bit tree 안에 32bit glibc 가 포함이 되어 있습니다. Yum repository를 설정 하시고, yum install glibc.i386 과 같이 architecture 를 지정해 주시면 설치가 가능합니다. Redhat 계열에서는 64bit 의 경우 /lib64, /usr/lib64 에 설치가 되며, 32bit 의 경우 기존 /lib, /usr/lib 를 사용하기 glibc 의 경우 충돌을 피할 수 있습니다. CentOS(RHEL)에서는 64bit 로 설치를 하더라도, glibc 등 몇몇 필요한 32bit package 들이 같이 설치가 됩니다.
