폰트는 어디에?

컴퓨터를 처음에 부팅 시키면 뭐 부팅 메세지들이 나오는데
그때 사용되는 폰트는 어디에 있는것인지 궁금합니다.

VGA 카드에 기본 폰트가 저장되어 있는것인지?
저장되어 있다면 폰트 종류가 몇개나 될런지?

VGA 카드에 기본 폰트가 저장되어 있다면...
grub 혹은 lilo 에서도 VGA 카드의 기본 폰트를 사용하는것인지?
kernel 에서 보내주는 메세지도 VGA 카드의 기본폰트를 사용하는것인지?
혹은 kernel 안에 따로 font가 존재 하는것인지..?

framebuffer 를 사용하면 작은 글자들이 뜨곤 하던데
그때 사용되는 폰트는 어떤것인지?
따로 framebuffer모듈안에 폰트가 저장되어 있는것인지?

ghostscript의 폰트 문제가지고 삽질하다 보니...
갑자기 화면에 나타나는 글자들에 대해 많은게 궁금해 졌습니다.
